SNOW COLOURED KID
sck

Nos amis ont dit / They said ...

Indiemp3 : Snow Coloured Kid is the solo project of one Anssi Konttinen who hails from Kotka in Finland. Apparently he is influenced by bands like Weezer, Fountains of Wayne and The Posies. When doing a live show he is joined on stage by his friends, and he just released his first CD on Anorak Records in France.
Of the 6 songs on the EP which I got in the mail the other day I'd say 3 songs are simply outstanding, and the rest ain't far behind. When I got permission to post one song here I faced a dilemma, but eventually chose the song my 11 year old foster-daughter hums along with the most.
This is top-notch pop music, I can imagine it being the soundtrack to some cheesy english romantic comedy starring that guy whose name I can't remember but starred in 4 Weddings and a Funeral.

Indiepages : Another fine release for Anorak, I believe this is the debut release from this Finnish group, although I've never seen any information about them anywhere. They have a pretty straightforward indiepop sound, with simple and easy-going songs in the vein of Ladybug Transistor, Sodajerk or maybe the Loch Ness Mouse - not at all twee, but certainly not rocking, either. Most of the songs are upbeat and catchy, with the disc's highlights being "Broken Glasses" (included as both a piano version and a noticeably different alternate guitar version, which is about as close to rocking as the band gets) and the jangly "I Hope You're On My Side". Quite a pleasant little disc.  MTQ=5/6
